After six wildly successful years between 1993-1999, the series ended neatly with the series main character Fran Fine (played by creator Fran Drescher) married to her boss Maxwell Sheffield (Charles Shaughnessy), and sassy butler Niles (Daniel Davis) settling down with his former arch rival — and Mr Sheffield’s colleague — C.C. Babcock (Lauren Lane).
But if the reboot does go ahead, Drescher said to expect big changes from Fran Fine.
'She would’ve maybe gotten involved in more things [that] Fran Drescher is involved with,' Drescher said. 'All kinds of things from environmental issues, to health, to civil liberties, that’s what I think Fran would be doing now — opening her big Queens mouth for the greater good.'
The actress added, 'The thing is our show would be the same characters 20 years later. We can’t just pick up where we left off. But in a way, that could be really good because the show can have a whole fresh bend to it.'
This isn't the first time Drescher has hinted at a reboot of The Nanny.
'As far as a reboot goes, I would be open to it if somebody wanted to do it,' Drescher told Closer Weekly back in December. 'But if nobody wants to do it, then I'm currently trying to develop something else.'
