Have you ever cut a cake and totally butchered it with completely disproportionate wedges?
If you have been cutting your cake into triangle pieces, we have news for you – it’s the wrong way to slice! At least according to mathematician Alex Bellos, who has a clever way of slicing and saving circular cakes.
In his YouTube video, Bellos demonstrates his method which involves cutting a rectangular slice through the very middle of the cake.

As it turns out, this new method of cake cutting is actually over a century old and was originally published in a 1906 science magazine.
By cutting a slice out of the middle, the remaining halves of the cake can be pushed back together so there are no exposed surfaces which go dry and stale.

The next day you can cut two slices out of the middle again and this process can be repeated every time you want a slice.
You’ll never have to eat stale cake again! Watch how it’s done below.
