According to DownDetector, issues first started cropping up on Facebook at around 8am ET, which is about 10 pm EST.
In response to the glitch, Facebook sent out the following Tweet: “We’re aware that some people are having trouble uploading or sending images, videos and other files on our apps. We’re sorry for the trouble and are working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible."
Instagram was next to address the major outage, as the company posted a similar message to Twitter regarding its technical issues.
A Facebook spokesperson later tweeted that the reason images aren't appearing is “issues around downloading software.”
Facebook and Instagram are still down. Which is why if you clicked into this article you probably didn't see an image.
