The Footy Show host Erin Molan has opened up about her crippling anxiety, describing it as ‘debilitating’ and ‘horrendous.’
In an interview with Show & Tell, Molan revealed what it’s like to work in the media industry while suffering anxiety.
‘I think in our industry a lot of it’s legitimate. People do lose their jobs and do get replaced,’ she said of working in media. ‘So sometimes I’m very hard on myself and think, “Oh you’re out of control” and then I’m like “no”, there’s also sometimes a rational reason to be a little bit worried and concerned.’
‘There’d be times I’d be sitting at my desk at work and my boss would walk by and not acknowledge me or he’d be walking by looking at something and then I’d just be like, “I’m gonna be sacked. He just hasn’t said hello. He must be going to sack me”,’ she said.
‘Then he’d go into his office and be on the phone. Then I’d be (peering into his office) like a f*cking meerkat thinking, “OK he’s on the phone to the big boss because that story I did last week wasn’t that strong and I’m gonna be sacked, OK seek.com, if I get sacked it’s gonna be so embarrassing, oh god then it’s gonna be public and then Sydney Confidential”.’
The sport commentator admits she is doing much better but, ‘It can be quite debilitating, it can be horrendous.’
