Matt Doran has been announced as the new presenter of Weekend Sunrise

The TV presenter will host the top-rated show from October 12 alongside Monique Wright, in a move that sees him replace Basil Zempilas, who wraps up his role this weekend.

According to TV TonightPerth-based Basil will remain part of the Sunrise family, but wanted to pull back on travel commitments in his demanding schedule.

The past two years have seen him commuting between Perth and Sydney every weekend.

In a recent interview with The West Australian, father-of-three Basil admitted the hefty workload had proved challenging for his young family.

“There’s no doubt that Amy and my family, the three kids have sacrificed a lot for my career, all of it I suppose,” he said.

“All of my children have been born in the time that I have been travelling away interstate. I’m very aware had it not been for their support and flexibility I wouldn’t be able to do the things that I’m doing.”

Matt’s new gig comes at just the right time, after Seven confirmed the axing of current-affairs program Sunday Night this week, where he had been working as a reporter.
