“We had a great conversation,” Meldrum added.
“We talked about when we first met, all the things we’ve been through, and how important our friendship is. He knew the interview thing was not my fault.”
The 72-year-old then paid tribute to their friendship while on stage.
“We’ve had tears, we’ve had laughter, but we’ve had a friendship that’s lasted so long,” Elton said.
“I don’t think anyone has done more for music in Australia than Molly Meldrum.
“Molly, I love you, I thank you dearly for everything you’ve done for me. Bless you.”
Elton also gave Molly a very special gift as a sign of their rekindled friendship - a signed book.
"Dear Molly thank you for all the years of love and support, so many great times and so many not so great times although great memories, love Elton," it read.
