British actress Jodie Whittaker has been announced as the first woman to play the Time Lord in BBC's Doctor Who.
The official Doctor Who Twitter account shared the news.
The Broadchurch star opened up about her exciting new venture to the Radio Times.
'I want to tell the fans not to be scared by my gender' she revealed. 'Because this is a really exciting time, and Doctor Who represents everything that’s exciting about change. The fans have lived through so many changes, and this is only a new, different one, not a fearful one.'
Previous actors who have starred in the sci-fi series include Matt Smith, David Tennant, Peter Capaldi and Christopher Eccelston.
