Epidermoid cysts are generally harmless but treatment is required if it becomes red, painful, swollen or infected. They are caused by a build up of keratin in the body as the protein is trapped beneath the skin and hair follicles. And are more likely to occur in people with acne and other skin conditions.
If you present symptoms of a cyst or infection do not try to squeeze it yourself as this can lead to further infection. Head to your local GP for diagnosis and treatment.
