Devastating news today for Tom Cruise
Tom Cruise has been left devastated, after The Mummy - the lead film in movie studio Universal’s new multi-million dollar franchise – disappointed at the box office.
The star has been travelling the world earnestly flogging the film – including a whirlwind visit to Australia, where she shared the red carpet with co-star Russell Crowe.
Reportedly costing around A$450 million including marketing expenses, The Mummy has been easily trounced by Wonder Woman, which has been out for weeks.
The Mummy took $42 million at the US box office, while Wonder Woman took $72 million.
While things are looking better for Tom at the global box office – the flick has taken $188 million – that’s still well below expectations for a movie with this kind of star power, which is open in an impressive 60 countries.
The Mummy has been roundly trashed by critics as well – which is sure to be just as painful for Tom, who has a very strong box office record.
The flick was meant to be the opening film in a series of Dark Universe films, which may now be under question or headed for a major rethink.
