Your true crime podcast obsession is just going to get bigger in 2019. With gripping new podcasts dropping regularly and true crime documentaries, TV shows and movies premiering this year (hello Dirty John and Ted Bundy), the world’s interest in these shocking stories and cold cases will only grow.
Whether you listen on your daily commute, save them for whilst your travelling or listen before bed (you’re brave), here’s our list of the best true crime podcasts you need to be listening to in 2019.
1. Claremont Serial Killings
The Claremont Serial Killings podcast takes listeners into the shocking murders of three young women from the well-to-do Perth suburb of Claremont in 1996 and 1997. The first girl, 18-year-old Sarah Spiers, disappeared after calling a taxi. A few months late Jane Rimmer, 23, disappears, and her body is found weeks later. As police begin searching for a serial killer, 27-year-old Ciara Glennon is taken and killed.
Australia’s longest running murder investigation, this one is timely as the cold case has been reopened 23 years later, with accused murderer Bradley Edwards set to stand trial in July

2. How I Survived
Each episode of How I Survived brings you a first hand recount from people who have escaped with their lives from shocking circumstances. One woman interviewed even escaped from the hands of the world’s worst serial killer, Ted Bundy.
From the team at that’s life! magazine, this podcast will have you hooked from the first episode.

3. Up and Vanished
Host Payne Lindsey investigates the case of beauty queen and school teacher Tara Grinstead who disappeared from her home in October 2005. Each episode he went through documents, retraced steps and scored tens of millions of downloads.
Six months after Up and Vanished launched, two arrests were made, with the police citing the media (aka, this podcast) for helping with the investigation. You’ll have to start listening to learn more on who was arrested with her murder, and why.

4. Broken Harts
Broken Harts investigates the tragic murder-suicide of the Hart family. Jennifer and Sarah Hart were a married couple, parents to their six adopted children. From the outside, they looked like a happy family, but when a drunk Jen drove her SUV filled with her entire family off of a cliff, people needed answers.

5. Over My Dead Body
From the team that brought you the Dirty John podcast, Over My Dead Body tells the story of attorney’s Dan and Wendi whose wedding is featured in the New York Times. Two kids later, the couple move for Dan’s job. But as their “perfect” marriage starts to fall apart, it leads to a divorce, a child custody battle and murder.
