The New Yorker died of heart failure, confirmed his former producer Alvin Toney.
Mack was made famous by his 1994 hit 'Flava In Ya Ear', which was the first single off Sean Combs AKA Diddy's Bad Boy label.
Diddy paid tribute to the late star on Twitter, writing: 'You believed in me and you believed in Bad Boy. I will never forget what you did for hip-hop.'
Other celebrities, including Mike Tyson and LLCoolJ, also paid tribute to him.
Mack is survived by his wife and two children.
