‘My pain threshold isn't as low as I think’: Constance Hall on the birth of her new baby

The mummy blogger was as candid as always - by Katherine Davison
  • 14 Mar 2018

Constance Hall has shared a candid post about the birth of her new baby.

The popular mummy blogger – who is expecting her fifth child – took to Facebook to talk about having a vaginal birth following a C-section (known as a VBAC), explaining that ‘ages ago’ she made a ‘really weird decision’ to deliver her unborn baby that way.

Constance, who married her partner Denim Cooke in January, said she had made the decision for ‘a few reasons’.

I have a big family to get back to, no time for recovery with 6 other kids at home and I didn't love my C-section, I mean it wasn't traumatic but it was a bit scary and felt really strange, like I couldn't breathe and the drugs gave me the shakes,’ she explained.

‘But mainly because I'm feeling so strong now, like I can direct my own birth and maybe my pain threshold isn't as low as I think (like imagine your kid gets tripped over by his sibling... that low) and I have this man by my side who's present and involved and could probably deliver the baby himself if we are stuck in the car...., Denim and my Obstetrician believe I've got this in the bag...’

But Constance went on to say she was now having second thoughts.

‘I'm questioning the decision... am I just doing it to prove something? Is it worth the risks?’ she asked, before appealing to her 1.2million Facebook followers for help.

‘Don't worry about scaring me, I want all the details!’ she wrote.

‘I’m VBACing right now. I’ve been in early labour for 24 hours - things are picking up at night then calming during the day. Be prepared that a lot of the pain you feel during contractions comes from the scar area - that’s a bit f****** scary! But so far so good,’ one mum wrote.

‘I had a VBAC. But unfortunately I was one of the very very very small percentages that went wrong,’ another supporter wrote.

‘And yes when it goes wrong, it's cataclysmic. My uterus ruptured. My boy lived for 9 months but with horrendous brain damage.

‘However I did the research. I knew the risks. And I would have always made that decision to try for a natural birth.’

Constance said she was deeply moved by hearing the stories of women who had lost babies during a VBAC.

‘I am so so sorry for all of the loss that Queens are writing about on this post,’ she wrote.

‘This is a lot more heart wrenching then I was expecting. I really hope my post hasn't upset anyone or brought them any pain.’
