Despite the reluctance to keep the area spic and span, cleaning guru Shannon Lush says it should take you less than five minutes.
'It takes me 4½ minutes to clean the stove and that includes the oven,' Lush told Good Food. 'I clean it once a week using bicarb soda, white vinegar and a pair of pantyhose.'
'Make sure the oven and stove are cold, take out all your racks and shelves, then sprinkle bicarb soda across the oven,' she said. 'Next, sprinkle with white vinegar. As soon as the bicarb soda fizzes, rub it with a rolled up pair of pantyhose. It cuts through the muck so fast.
'All you have to do is wipe it with a damp sponge afterwards. Just pop a mirror in the bottom of the oven so you can see the oven ceiling without having to stick your head upside down.'
When it comes to a good cleaning cloth, Lush is a big advocate using pantyhose. She says they work just as well as a micro fibre cloth and for a fraction of the cost.
A quick Google search revealed a six pack of panty hose can be purchased for $4.50. Alternatively, reuse your old ones instead of throwing them out.
