Last week, police begun a six-day forensic search of Chris Dawson's former Bayview home in an attempt to find his ex-wife Lynette Dawson's body or any other clues that would assist officials in determining the cause of her disappearance.
On Tuesday, just one day after the search came to a close, Joanne Curtis arrived at Dee Why police station on Sydney's northern beaches. The former schoolgirl lover of Chris arrived at lunchtime clutching a folder of documents, and left more than an hour later.
No explanation has been give for the 54-year-old's visit to the station and a New South Wales Police Force spokeswoman has reportedly stated, "For privacy reasons, we are not in a position to comment on why a member of the public may have attended a police station."
Ms Curtis was just 16-years-old when former-footballer Chris Dawson begun grooming her for sex. Over a year after their affair began, Ms Curtis moved into the home of Chris Dawson just two days after Lyn Dawson went missing. The mysterious circumstances of Lyn's disappearance have caused people to speculate that Mr Dawson murdered his own wife, who was the mother of their two young daughters.
Mr Dawson has never been charged with any offence, despite his relationship with Ms Curtis being confirmed. A close friend of Ms Curtis informed Daily Mail that the effects of the relationship between the pair had lifelong effects on Ms Curtis.
"She's a victim and she's a survivor," said the friend. The source went on to say that Ms Curtis has attempted to move on with her life despite what happened in her past but has been blindsided by the recent publicity around the case due to the success of a 14-part podcast called The Teacher's Pet which was produced by The Australian newspaper.
The podcast makes a strong case that Mr Dawson had killed Lyn Dawson, which prompted the forensic search as part of Strike Force Scriven's investigation into the suspected murder. However, the search failed to find any items of interest or bodily remains.
In 1984, two years after his wife's disappearance, Chris married his teen lover Joanne Curtis. Together they had a daughter but have since parted ways. Ms Curtis has chosen to remain close to her daughter Kristen by remaining on the northern beaches. Meanwhile, the now 70-year-old Mr Dawson has moved to Queensland near Noosa and lives with his third wife Sue.
Ms Curtis' friend further revealed to Daily Mail that she feels sorry for Joanne due to the "massive spotlight on her" and that it feels like she's being "a bit badgered and hunted at the moment."
Ms Curtis first met Mr Dawson in 1980 after the PE teacher at Cromer High became her teacher. At the time, he had been married for nine years and had two daughters.
The pair begun interacting at the Time and Tide Hotel at Dee Why on Friday nights before she became a babysitter the Dawson's children.
In evidence presented at the 2003 coronial inquest, it was revealed that they begun a sexual relationship when Joanne was 16 and when Chris was 32.
Ms Curtis claimed that Mr Dawson invited her to move in with his family after it was revealed she had a troubled home life with a violent stepfather.
It's unknown if Mrs Dawson was aware of the affair but it was no secret at Cromer High. Neighbours of the Dawson's also claimed to have seen the schoolgirl swimming topless in the family's pool.
