You’ll be amazed by what happened to ‘Curly Sue’

An unbelievable turn of events for once washed up child star

She shot to child stardom back in the late 1980s and early 1990s with roles in such movie hits as Parenthood and Stella, and of course, Curly Sue – before sliding into relative obscurity and a battle with addiction.

But Alisan Porter, now 35, has staged a spectacular comeback in the US, winning that country’s version of The Voice and launching a successful singing career. Now, as she works on her big post-show album, the nine-years-sober star isn’t taking anything for granted.

‘Finally, after all these years, I get a little retribution!’ she jokes of now being famous under her own name – rather than being latched to an old kiddie film. ‘I get to be Alisan Porter for once.’

A happily married mum of two, her out of control years are well behind her.

‘I was miserable and overwhelmed with life,’ she recalled of those days on her blog. ‘I felt trapped, scared, and sad and I was ready to really go for broke or get better. So, I did what every good user does and I prayed to a god I had never believed in and then called my mum.’
