Hollywood actor Van Kilmer has revealed he is recovering from cancer, after repeatedly denying that he had been diagnosed with the disease.
The 57-year-old made the admission in a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) session on Wednesday.
There has been widespread speculation surrounding the Batman star’s health since he was spotted with a tracheostomy tube in his neck back in 2015.
This was fuelled by fellow actor Michael Douglas’ claims that his friend was suffering from oral cancer, the same disease he had battled himself until going into remission in 2013.
“A while ago, Michael Douglas claimed you had terminal cancer?” one fan quizzed during the session.
“What was the story behind that?”
Kilmer answered: “He was probably trying to help me cause press probably asked where I was these days, and I did have a healing of cancer, but my tongue is still swollen altho healing all the time [sic].
“Because I don’t sound my normal self yet people think I may still be under the weather.”
Speaking at a Q&A in London in October last year, Douglas said that his The Ghost and the Darkness co-star was “dealing with exactly what I had” and that “things don’t look too good for him.”
“My prayers are with him,” the 72-year-old told fans at the time, before adding: “That’s why you haven’t heard too much from Val lately.”
Soon after, Kilmer addressed the comment on Facebook saying he had “no cancer whatsoever,” and had lost touch with his co-star.
“I love Michael Douglas but he is misinformed,” he wrote.
