Police are investigating the death of two sisters after they were found in their backyard swimming pool in Brisbane.
According to the Australian, Taya, four, and Patricia, three, were found by their five-year-old sister who called for her parents – but it was too late.
Mother Renise Young tried to resuscitate her daughters. ‘All a mother could do when they see their baby like that is just scream at the top of their lungs,’ she said according to the Courier Mail.
‘I was screaming and grabbing them and making sure their head was above the water and just yelling because there was nothing I could do.’
Inspector Glenn Allen told the Nine Network emergency services were also unable to revive the girls.
The girls’ grandfather Peter Brown told reporters the mother and father are devastated.
‘He’s cut up something terrible, and she’s just as bad, cause she had to dive in the pool to get them out,’ Brown said.
‘They’d just finished cleaning the pool to go swimming, it had regulation fencing all around it, so I don’t know how they got in.’
Police are still trying to work out how the girls got inside the pool fence.
