Inspirational burns survivor Turia Pitt has opened up about how spring water helped heal her scars.

The ultramarathon runner and mum-of-one appeared on Channel 7’s The Morning Show on Thursday where she spoke about her most recent treatment.

Seven years on from the ultramarathon fire that left Turia with burns to 65 per cent of her body, Turia made a trip overseas with her 10-month-old son Hakavai.

The 31-year-old flew to France, for an intensive two-week treatment using spring water to help with her healing.

‘It made my skin more soft and supple,’ Turia told the programme.

‘One of the problem with burns is that your skin gets dry. This water moisturises it.’

Turia recently underwent surgery to aid her recovery and told the show that if her son asks about her scars she will ‘be upfront and honest’.

‘If he asked what happens to me, I will just say that I got it in a fire.

Kids have got so many awesome qualities. They can handle the hard stuff and they are so honest,’ Turia said.

The mum-of-one is also soon to embark on a new challenge – the Kathmandu Coast to Coast race in NZ.

‘ I have not been able to train due to my foot. I am scared and I am nervous,’ Turia admitted.

Of course I have to train. When you sign up, you have to do the work. I cannot do that at the moment. I will start training when my foot heals.’

When Turia is nervous of the challenge she is facing it head-on as she does most things.

‘If you have a goal that you are scared of, that is a good thing,’ she said.

‘To be scared and nervous and anxious and apprehensive, that to me says that you have set the right goal. I am nervous and I know that I want to pull it off and when I do I will feel good about myself.’
