Bob Wilson, the father of Owen and Luke Wilson, has died.
Luke Wilson, actor Owen’s actor brother, confirmed the tragic news to the Dallas Morning News.
The Family Stone star told publication his father passed away after battling Alzheimer’s disease for many years.
Bob was 75 years old.
He was a ‘longtime presence in Dallas’ television arena’ according to People magazine, where Bob helped to launch KERA, North Texas’ public broadcasting station.
Bob even inspired a 2011 documentary called Bob Wilson and the Early Years of KERA, released as the station celebrated its 50th anniversary.
A gala to mark the occasion was held at the time, however Bob was too ill to attend.
Owen has said of his late father’s illness in the past, ‘It’s one of those things where if somebody had said 10 years ago, when my dad and I were joking around, having a putting match, that this is the position your dad’s going to be in, where he basically needs 24-hour care, you’d think, ‘Gosh, I won’t be able to handle that. That’s just not possible.’
‘But it does happen. Such things just happen in life. You just have to do your best to deal with it. You’ve got no choice but to accept it. And then, you sort of still look for the things to be grateful for. He is at home, taken care of, and he has people around that love him.’
