Although the film isn’t due to start production until 2018, Tom revealed many details had already been discussed.

‘We’re going to have the same tone we did in the first one … aviators are back, the need for speed.

‘We’re going to have big, fast machines. It’s going to be a competition film, like the first one – it’s going to be in the same vein as the first one, but a progression for Maverick.’

With stars such as Val Kilmer, Kelly McGillis and Anthony Edwards, Tim Robbins and Meg Ryan in the first movie, Tom was naturally asked if any of the original cast would be returning – however the actor appeared not to wat togive too much away, instead deflecting with a joke.
