Here’s everything you need to know:

WHAT IT’S ABOUT

Ten years after Patrick Swayze’s death from pancreatic cancer, The Real Dirty Dancing pays homage to the actor and one of his most famous roles, Johnny Castle.

To raise awareness for pancreatic cancer research, eight celebrities travel to Dirty Dancing’s real-life location in Virginia, where they work with choreographers Todd McKenney and Kym Johnson to learn the dance moves made famous by the film.

Their goal is to be chosen to perform as Baby and Johnny in a one-off theatre performance back in Australia, where they will recreate the famous dance to ‘(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life’. But do these celebrities have the right moves?

WHO IS PARTICIPATING?

Expect plenty of laughs as actor Hugh Sheridan, presenter Jessica Rowe, swimmer Stephanie Rice, designer and presenter Jamie Durie, AFL star Jude Bolton, actor Firass Dirani, media personality Anna Heinrich and comedian Anne Edmonds put on their dancing shoes in the hopes of becoming the next Baby and Johnny.

Despite coming from a wide variety of backgrounds, the celebrities became firm friends during the experience, Hugh Sheridan tells New Idea.

“All the boys were staying together in a cabin,” he says. “We would have fun drinks every night and invite the girls over and have a laugh.

That was the fun part of it, the camaraderie.”

THE LOCATION

It was the summer of 63 and Baby and her family stayed at the rustic Kellerman’s Resort in upstate New York, where they enjoyed samba classes and talent nights.

But in real life, Dirty Dancing was filmed at the Mountain Lake Lodge in Virginia, and this is where our celebrities headed to undergo their Dirty Dancing immersion.

“It looks very different on the inside, which you will see,” Hugh reveals.

“I mean, some of it looks similar and some doesn’t. But the show works really hard to recreate anything that was missing, so anyone who is a fan will enjoy watching it.

There is plenty of nostalgia. It was cool being there.”
