The Queen and her grandson hostged the Nobel peace laureate Aung San Suu Kyi at Buckingham Palace, on Friday amidst news younger members of the Royal family, including William and his brother Harry will now ‘rally around’ and support the Queen with future events, after the Duke of Edinburgh revealed his decision to retire.

Charles and Camilla were also in attendance to welcome Burma’s de facto leader at Clarence House later in the day.

The announcement that Prince Philip, who will celebrate 70 years of marriage to the Queen in November, will stop carrying out public engagements from this autumn came as aides insisted there were no concerns about his health.

Palace sources said Philip’s decision was a personal one, made by him alone. One aide said: ‘He is almost 96, you can see he is in good form and good spirits, but ultimately only he knows how he feels.
