This week’s charity challenge hits close to home for the Townsville parents.
Hannah, in particular, is overcome with emotion when the teams meet a mum-of-three whose son has been in hospital for five months battling a brain tumour.
The parents-of-two know all too well the terror of seeing a young child in need of medical care.
When Hannah and Clint’s youngest, Poppy, was born too quickly, she stopped breathing.
‘They spent about six minutes resuscitating her when she was born,’ Hannah, 31, tells New Idea.
‘I had a healthy pregnancy, a pretty normal birth. She was my second child, the baby should just be on my chest.’
A sombre Clint, 34, remembers those six minutes as the longest of his life.
‘Emotionally, Hannah went through so much,’ he says. ‘Just the delivery and then Poppy. I was trying to console Hannah, but then you see a team of five just working on this tiny body. At that stage, you’re not meant to go through that. It was very frightening.’
Now a happy and healthy three-year-old little sister to Finn, five, Poppy’s health scare helped her parents treasure their family of four.
‘I think the whole experience made us appreciate how lucky we are,’ Hannah reflects.
‘There are so many families out there who aren’t as lucky.’
