For some time, rumours have been swirling that Channel Nine were interested in purchasing the notorious Gatwick Hotel in Melbourne’s St Kilda for season 13 of The Block.
According to The Age, a caveat was placed on the property by a company owned by the Nine Network, MICJOY on Wednesday.
The St Kilda hotel is located at 34 Fitzroy Street and has an infamous history which involves gruesome murders, rapes and drug overdoses.
The hotel has been on the market since December 2015 priced at $11-12 million.
The caveat reportedly taken by MICJOY all but confirmed Nine have interest in the property for their reality renovation series.
Confirming than an approach had bee made, Lemon Baxter associate director Richard Hutton, a real estate agent working on the sale told The Age: ‘There was due diligence involved but nothing has been finalised.’
However, owners of The Gatwick Hotel, sisters Yvette Kelly and Rose Banks, refused to comment.
‘I can’t speak…I’m going to have to say “no comment,” Yvette said.
The property has been seen of four murders, including 34-year-old Arthur Karatasiosis – who was stabbed to death in the foyer in 2006.
Again in 2006, a 52-year-old woman was raped and robbed in a gruesome attack.
The hotel has also seen a series of fatal drug overdoses.
It’s believed filming will begin in April, as the application form read: ‘Successful couples must be available for a 10-12 week shoot period from April 2017.’
