The Block’s Dan and Carleen address their split rumours

Are the reality renovation couple still together?

After recent rumours swirled that Dan and Carleen Foley were living separate lives, New Idea can confirm that, despite living in different areas of Western Australia, the reality TV couple are in fact still together.

‘We don’t really live ‘apart’, we’re very together,’ Carleen reinforces.

‘I live down at Abbey Beach in Dunsborough and Carleen in Perth,’ Dan adds. ‘It works well because Carleen comes down for a lot of the week.’

This decision occurred when The Block couple sold their last home, they decided to downsize to a smaller apartment instead.

‘In our last sale, we downsized to an apartment in Subiaco,’ Carleen explains, setting the record straight. ‘We’ve always wanted to live down south, so we bought a house in Dunsborough.’

After settling in down south, Dan was completely smitten with the area and didn’t want to head back home, leaving Carleen in Perth with her business as a hairdresser.

‘At Christmas time (last year), Dan said he wasn’t going to come back (to Perth),’ Carleen explains. ‘He loves it down there (Abbey Beach).’

Running her own business in Perth, Carleen admits that while it’s not a traditional living arrangement, it works for them.

‘It just evolved that my work stayed in Perth and I work three days a week there and then the window opened up for Dan to do some work for his brother down south and that built up,’ Carleen describes. ‘I’ve got a business to run in Perth! So I come back to Perth, do my three days and then go back down to Dan.’

As it turns out, this unconventional arrangement could be the answer to Dan and Carleen’s success as a couple, as they celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary in January of this year.

‘We’ve always had a strong relationship,’ Dan smiles. ‘We’ve been soul-mates since we met.’

When questioned if appearing on the popular Nine Network renovation show strengthened their three decade long marriage – Carleen responds with a resounding yes.

‘It did (make us stronger) because you only have each other on the show – you are the team,’ Carleen explains. ‘You come to the show together and if you start not getting on together, what hope do you have?’
