It’s official: The Bachelor US stars Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell have split.
The couple, who vowed to spend the rest of their lives together during the season 20 finale of the show, have revealed they have ended their relationship after just over a year together.
“It is with heavy hearts that we announced our decision to go our separate ways,” they told PEOPLE in a statement.
“We wish nothing but the best for each other, and ask for your support and understanding at this time.”
Their relationship has been plagued by controversy after fans watched Higgins propose to Bushnell after also declaring his love for the show’s runner up Joelle Fletcher.
Despite accepting his proposal, the 29-year-old later admitted that this had come between them.
“I did carry some resentment toward him,” she told US Weekly.
“I had such a hard time trying to understand and put myself in his shoes, and finally was like, ‘I will never understand.’”
In fact, speaking with E! News, multiple sources claim that a break up between the pair was inevitable.
“No one is surprised,” one insider confessed.
“Lauren was pretty open among her friends that she was struggling. She would talk about how hard it was.”
