Teen Mom 2’s Jenelle Evans is no stranger to controversy. As a reality TV star, we’ve watched her struggle through anger problems, domestic violence and tornado-stricken mess of a relationship with her mother.
But the 25-year-old recently opened up to E! News about a side cameras didn’t see. Heroin abuse.
“I think my low point was with my drug issue and the whole heroin thing,” she recalls. “I almost overdosed and died. I was trying to run away from my problems. Before I knew it, I was shooting up four or five times a day.”
The mum of three admitted she once came close to killing herself as the substance abuse spiraled out of control. In fact, it wasn’t until she experienced the terror of heroin withdrawal that she decided to take control of her health.
Jenelle explains, “When I started withdrawing for the first time in my life, I was like, ‘This is not the way I want to live. This is scaring the s**t out of me, and I need to get help right now.'”
For those who have been watching the series since its start, this revelation will come to little surprise. The star has a string of arrests including assault, affray, drug possession, probation violation and disturbing the peace.
Despite years of legal battles, Jenelle has never regained custody of her first son Jace (7) from her mother Barbara. With her addiction now under control, Jenelle is looking forward to obtaining full custody of her son after finally reaching a court-ordered visitation agreement.
“[Barbara] knows if she gives him to me that I will cut her off. That will be it. She’s scared,” she details.
Jenelle shares Jace with ex Andrew Lewis but also has son Kaiser, three, with ex Nathan Griffith, with whom Jenelle had, again, a difficult relationship. Griffith was arrested for domestic violence towards Jenelle in 2015 and re-arrested at the end of last year for allegedly choking girlfriend Jessica Henry.
These days things are looking up. She gave birth to daughter Ensley with her fiance David in January. The couple announced their engagement in February and plan to marry on September 23 of this year. She also has a book due for release on July 25 titled, Read Between The Lines.
