Leah Adler, the mother of Hollywood director Steven Spielberg, has died at the age of 97.
According to Variety, the former concert pianist, painter and restaurateur passed away at her Los Angeles home, surrounded by family.
Leah – a Cincinnati native who was often referred to as ‘Lee Lee’ – married Arnold Meyer Spielberg in 1945.
The couple went on to share four children together before divorcing in 1965. Leah wed her second husband, Bernie Adler, just two years later.
Spielberg had an incredibly close relationship with his mother, and often credited her for his artistic skill.
In 1994 when he won the Academy Award for Best Director for the film Schindler’s List, he thanked his mum in his acceptance speech and called her his “lucky charm.”
Spielberg’s production company Amblin Partners released a statement in tribute of the self-confessed “dolly,” saying that she’ll be best remembered for her “deep, limitless love for the people around her.”
Leah is survived by her children, 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
