Steve Martin’s inappropriate tribute to Carrie Fisher

What was he thinking!?

Steve Martin shared what we assume he thought would be a funny tribute to his long-time friend Carrie Fisher on Twitter, however; after some heated backlash, the star was forced to remove the tweet.

‘When I was a young man, Carrie Fisher was the most beautiful creature I had ever seen. She turned out to be witty and bright as well,’ the star wrote.

The tweet was taken by some as containing a ‘sexist undertones’, news.com.au reports.

The Cut writes that Martin’s tweet reminds us of Fisher’s struggle against being known as a sex symbol.

‘I wish I had known I was a sex symbol,’ Carrie Fisher said during a press tour for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, adding, ‘That’s so odd because I don’t look at myself even remotely that way.’

Referring to Princess Leia in a bikini, ‘Every guy our age loved that,” she added. ‘It’s huge. That’s the moment when she stopped being a princess and she became, like, a woman.’

In 2015, the actress also spoke out against critics who objectified her appearance.

However, not everyone took offence to Martin’s post, with some fans defending the actor.
