Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin’s death has been confirmed as an accident.
Yelchin was reported dead on Monday after a freak accident at his home in California. Reports claim he was killed when his car rolled backwards down his driveway, crushing him between his Jeep Grand Cherokee and the gate.
Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter of the Los Angeles County coroner’s office confirms told PEOPLE, Yelchin died from ‘blunt traumatic asphyxia.’
Jenny Houser, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department, said on Monday, ‘The car pinned him against a brick wall and a security fence and that trauma led to his death.’
PEOPLE reports a LAPD spokesperson said, ‘The investigation is still ongoing and the traffic detectives will look at all of those factors as they would in any traffic collision investigation. So, at this time we’re not sure what caused it, but that’s something investigators are looking at.’
