Prince Louis and Princess Tessy of Luxembourg have announced their separation after 10 years of marriage.
Prince Louis, 30, the third son of the Grand Duke and Duchess, married Princess Tessy, 31, in September 2006, six months after the birth of their first son.
In a statement released today, the Princess confirmed the “extremely sad” news.
“I am very sad to confirm that Louis and I are getting divorced after 12 years together,” she began.
“Despite our separation, we will always remain unified by parenthood to our two precious boys.”
“It is extremely sad for both of us to realise that we will walk separate life paths from now on. In these challenging times, I ask for privacy for both of us and especially the privacy of our children to be respected.”
The pair are currently living in London with their children 10-year-old Prince Gabriel and nine-year-old Prince Louis.
The couple’s split is set to be the first high-profile European royal divorce since Princess Alexandra of Denmark and Prince Joachim ended their marriage in 2005.
