Up until now, no images or video footage of the seven-time world champion have been released since the tragic skiing accident in December 2013 which saw him suffer a traumatic brain injury.

An investigation is currently under way into who took the picture and how they managed to sneak it out of the German driver’s Switzerland home, despite his manager Sabine Khem, and nursing staff being present at the time.

According to RTL the image in question appears to show Schumacher lying in his bed, and has reportedly already been offered to a European media outlet for a large sum of money.

In response Motorsport Magazine’s request for a comment on the weekend, Khem said: “Michael’s health is not a public issue, and so we will continue to make no comment in that regard.”

“We have to protect his intimate sphere,” she continued. “Legally seen and in the longer term, every statement related to his health would diminish the extent of his intimate sphere.”

Prosecutors in Offenburg, Germany are insisting the pictures violate the former Ferrari champions “personal range of life” and have since been investigating the incident.

The 47-year-old has been cared for in his Lake Geneva, residence since September 2014 after waking from a medically induced coma.
