The headline-grabbing arrest of A Current Affair star reporter Ben McCormack was sparked by the arrest of a suspected child rapist in WA, according to a shock report in The West Australian today.
According to the paper, McCormack was among a number of men investigated by police for alleged involvement in child offences after the original WA arrest provided police with extensive phone records, computer files and web links that police allege led to men around the country. Another arrest – that of a primary school teacher – is reportedly also related to the swoop.
The original offender is facing 35 charges, including child rape and pornography related offences. McMormack and the teacher both came to attention for alleged child porn offences.
The ACA reporter is alleged to have shared child sex fantasies online, and has been charged with using a carriage service to send child exploitation material.
The Nine TV star remains in secluded treatment after reportedly suffering health issues following his arrest.
