Who Is Samara Weaving?

Samara Weaving was born in Adelaide on February 23, 1992. The model-actress had a globetrotting childhood, growing up in Singapore, Fiji, and Indonesia, before her family moved to Canberra in 2005. She finished high school at Canberra Girls Grammar School and pursued acting full-time soon after she graduated.

Films are really just in Samara Weaving’s blood. After all, Samara’s father is respected filmmaker Simon Weaving, the artistic director of the Canberra International Film Festival. Her uncle is Hollywood star and theatre actor, Hugo Weaving, best known for blockbusters The Matrix and Lord of The Rings. And Sam’s younger sister, Morgan Weaving, is also an actress!

When she first had producers knocking on her door, Sam turned to her family for sound advice: They were really supportive and were like, ‘Well, what do you really want to do?’ And I thought about it and, ‘Yeah, I want to be an actor.’ And they’re like, ‘Well, you can go to school for that or just learn on the job.’ And I was like, ‘Okay, yeah.’ Because they would say, if that’s your end result and you’ve got an opportunity, then take it.

Her Big Break On Television

Sam Weaving’s first big acting gig came in 2008, when she scored the role of Kirsten Mulroney in local soap Out of The Blue. Soon after that, she was cast in the recurring role of Indigo “Indi” Walker in Home and Away. Her performance was so good that she was made part of the main cast in just one year!

Samara moved to Hollywood but continued to act in Australian films like Mystery Road in 2013, and Bad Girl in 2016. What cemented her status as an up-and-coming Hollywood player was getting cast as Heather in the first season of Ash vs. Evil Dead in 2015.

2017, however, was the year Sam really made her mark. She was cast in Oscar-winning dark comedy Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, and the thriller The Babysitter, as well as the American comedy series SMILF. Her acting accolades and stunning blonde looks had many people dubbing her the next Margot Robbie, another Australian actress who’s since gone on to Hollywood fame.

Although it’s been tough, she’s kept a level head and has taken all her roles seriously: You’re constantly doubting yourself, and then you just have to trust the director that they’re gonna pick the right thing,” Sam said.
