Photos have emerged of Sam Burgess attending an exclusive boat party on Boxing Day, just days after news broke that he had split from wife and mother of his two children, Phoebe Burgess.
In pictures obtained by the Daily Mail, the 30-year-old NRL star can be seen chatting with an unnamed blonde woman at the party – hosted on The Island, a floating venue in Sydney – just one day after Phoebe, 29 was notably absent from a Burgess family Christmas celebration.
A witness told the Daily Mail that Burgess was showing no signs of having split from his wife.
‘He looked happy, seemed to be having a good time,’ the observer said.
‘I noticed he wasn’t with his wife but didn’t think much of it.
‘But then when I saw the news yesterday that they split, I thought for someone to be smiling like that when they’ve just left their wife is full-on.’
News broke at the beginning of January that Sam and Phoebe had split just three weeks after the birth of their second child, Billy Mark.
On Wednesday January 2, Sam was pictured leaving his marital home with three large suitcases before Phoebe’s mother Sarah Hooke arrived.
Sam is thought to have ended the couple’s relationship just before Christmas and Phoebe was not seen at the Burgess family Christmas dinner held at Watson’s Bay.
Phoebe is said to have spent Christmas with her parents in their Bowral home.
Another telling sign was the fact that the couple’s third wedding anniversary and Sam’s Birthday was not marked on social media by his 29-year-old wife.
The split comes after Sam was cleared of any wrongdoing in the sexting scandal that happened in September when Phoebe was 28 weeks pregnant.
Sam found himself at the centre of a video chat scandal after his Facebook account was reportedly used to send nude photos to a 23-year-old woman.
‘I’m not angry. What hurts me the most is seeing my wife upset about what’s out there,’ the father of two told reporters during a press conference at the Rabbitohs’ Redfern training headquarters.
The couple have been married for five years and also share two-year-old daughter Poppy Alice.
