Nicole Kidman is battling to stop husband Keith Urban from spiralling into a shock drug relapse after a string of devastating events that have left him desperately on edge.
The Aussie singer is believed to be taking the recent deaths of two close friends and fellow country music stars ‘very hard’, and after not being asked back on the TV show American Idol after four years, he feels gutted.
While Keith put on a brave face at the Toronto Film Festival with wife Nicole Kidman last week, he’s believed to be battling with the bad news behind closed doors – leading to a wave of concern for his wellbeing.
‘Nicole is beside herself with worry,’ says the source.
‘When Keith’s dad died last year, everyone was concerned for Keith – but he stayed strong and really stayed on the straight and narrow. But now that he’s been hit with so much sadness and disappointment in one week, Nicole is worried that it’s going to push him over the edge.’
Keith’s world was turned upside down with the recent deaths of his very good friends Troy Gentry and Don Williams, both on the same day.

Fellow country singer Troy died when a helicopter he was flying in crashed on September 8, leading Keith, 49, to make a heartfelt statement about his close mate. Hours later on the very same day, it was revealed that legendary performer Don – an idol and mentor for Keith – sadly passed away following a short illness, leaving Keith clearly distressed.
‘I cannot put into words the depth of sadness I feel right now,’ the father-of-two emotionally stated on social media about the loss.
It follows on from the death of country legend Glen Campbell last month, a friend so close that it lead music bible Rolling Stone to write that ‘few were affected so acutely by the loss as Keith Urban.’
Then on September 11, Keith revealed his latest heartbreak – he hadn’t been asked to come back on American Idol when it returns to US screens next year. And it’s news that’s sure to lave a big hole in Keith’s heart.
