Ryan Seacrest suffered the most toe-curling of on-air gaffes when he accidently confused one of his guest with a deceased actor.
The US host was interviewing actor Jeffrey Tambor on Live with Kelly and Ryan alongside co-host Kelly Ripa when the awkward moment happened.
Despite appearing in TV shows such as Arrested Development and Transparent, Ryan was keen to talk about Jeffrey’s role in Ghost.
“To me, you’re the scary guy in the subway in Ghost,” he told his guest.
One small catch, the character Ryan was thinking of was actually played by the late Vincent Schiavelli, who passed away in 2005!

Thankfully, Jeffrey remained good-humoured and proceeded to poke fun at an embarrassed Ryan.
‘Oh this is horrible … you’re gonna be embarrassed. That’s not me,’ he said.
‘How’re you doin’, you alright? It’s Vincent Schiavelli. Are you OK? Are you alright?’ he teased.
‘He’s dead,’ he announced. ‘We tried to book Vincent Schiavelli, he’s passed away and here I am. What is wrong with you? I came on to sell a book, not to be insulted! I am hurt. My reps are here and we are filing an action suit. I came on in GOOD FAITH.
‘Let me ask you, did you think you were booking Vincent Schiavelli?’
Thankfully, Jeffrey admitted it isn’t the first time he’s been mistaken for Vincent.
‘[Even] my WIFE thought I was Vincent Schiavelli … and we married,’ he joked.
