He’s an icon beloved by children (and even some former royals), but fast food mascot Ronald McDonald is taking a break from the spotlight, amid growing hysteria over thugs dressed as ‘killer clowns’ stalking and harassing innocent people.
McDonald’s Corporation has confirmed to AP that it is being ‘thoughtful in respect to Ronald McDonald’s participation in community events’ due to the ‘current climate around clown sightings in communities’. It did not provide any further details on changes to the clown’s schedule.
Anti-clown hysteria has been growing in recent weeks, as hoodlums and jokers around the world jump on the ‘killer clown’ bandwagon, menacing people, often in dark and isolated places, and sometimes with weapons. According to recent reports, one victim went into premature labor after being terrified by a clown.
