He made history when he won his eighth Wimbledon title over the weekend.
But for tennis great Roger Federer, it was the familiar faces in the crowd that made the moment extra memorable.
“I looked up in the stands and saw my kids… then it started to sink in that I was a Wimbledon Champion for real,” he told Today.
The Swiss star shares four children with his wife Mirka – three-year-old identical twin boys, Lenny and Leo, and seven-year-old identical twin girls, Myla Rose and Charlene.
Although the 35-year-old defeated Croatian Marin Cilic in an impressive three straight sets, it was his adorable offspring that stole the spotlight.
Sitting alongside their mother in the players’ box, the youngsters couldn’t help but wave at the cameras and make silly faces at their dad as he collected his trophy.
“I saw the boys for the first time, and [seeing] them coming out to centre court and knowing how much centre court means to me, and seeing them like not knowing what’s going on,” Federer recalled.
“And then the girls were there too and my wife was emotional. It just really hit me.”
“Things were different this time around,” he continued.
“I’m a father of four and I don’t know, it’s crazy.”
