She may be brash, unfiltered and controversial, but one label Lisa Oldfield won’t accept is racist.
‘People call me a racist, how am I a f****** racist? I’m part-Asian, for Christ’s sake,’ she exclaims.
Of course, viewers will already be familiar with Lisa from her high-profile marriage to former One Nation politician David Oldfield. David’s name came to prominence when he worked alongside One Nation founder Pauline Hanson, with rumours of an affair making headlines through Australia.
Fellow Housewife Victoria Rees couldn’t avoid this hot topic and brought it up immediately in the first episode of The Real Housewives of Sydney.
When New Idea raises the issue of the alleged affair, Lisa is quick to brush it off.
‘At first, I was a little upset because I’ve heard the rumour over and over again and I’m bored of it,’ the 42-year-old explains, trying to skirt the issue.
‘[Coming from Victoria] I thought it was mean-spirited.’
To make matters worse, when Foxtel started to promote the show, Lisa was introduced as a ‘politician’s wife’ – completely ignoring her own achievements.
‘Can you believe after an enormously successful corporate career @foxtel have labelled me as a #politicianswife? Nevermind that my husband left #politics10 years ago!’ the former daytime TV host and sales director ranted on Instagram.
Lisa and David have been together for 17 years, and true to form, the outspoken mother-of-two doesn’t sugar-coat the reality of a long-term marriage.
‘We started filming the show when our marriage was on its last legs. We’ve had a lot of marital problems and I’m very open about them,’ Lisa shares candidly.
‘I talk a lot about our issues on the show. It’s been interesting filming because it really held a mirror up to us and made us realise that hey, we’re not communicating anymore.’
To address their marital woes, Lisa reveals that she and David go to marriage counselling.
‘We need a counsellor because we’re two very strong personalities who do love to argue – our arguments are like Mr and Mrs Smith so we need an adjudicator or a referee to blow the whistle sometimes,’ she says.
Keen to make a name for herself, Lisa states: ‘The world has never seen a housewife like me!’ She adds: ‘I don’t care what people think about me. I polarise people – some will defend me to the death and other people want me dead.
