He was probably most famous as the mean judge on Hey, Hey It’s Saturday, but after years of snark, former rocker Red Symons has finally been forced to apologise for what comes out of his mouth.
The star, who is now an ABC radio host, has issued an apology after a string of offensive comments made during a chat with guest Beverley Wang.
Red bizarrely asked, ‘What’s the deal with Asians’ and ‘Are you yellow?’ during the chat – which has been widely slammed as racist. The chat was subsequently pulled offline by the national broadcaster.
Red now insists he’s sorry for the offensive conversation, which has generated a stream of angry complaints from the public.
‘I came across as racist and I was wrong in the way I conducted the interview,’ he admits.
‘I offer my sincerest apologies. We need to talk about these issues, but be careful we consider them.’
Red’s statement follows an apology from the ABC last week.
