Kendall Jenner has come under fire for her latest modelling campaign. Named as the face of Pepsi, a commercial was released to the masses yesterday featuring the 21-year-old model, however due it’s content, it only lasted one day before the company decided to pull the pin on it.

The commercial featured a platinum blonde Kendall, posing for a photoshoot as a protest is in full force outside. Kendall is lured into the fray by a handsome photographer leaving her blonde wig and fashion crew behind. Once in the crowd, the reality TV star hands a police officer a can of Pepsi, sending the protestors into a fit of cheers.

As soon it was released, the commercial was subject to a day of viral backlash, resulting in Pepsi taking it off the air.

The ad has been compared to a photo that went viral from a Black Lives Matter protest and in turn is seen as being highly insensitive to recent events.

Pepsi has released a statement apologising for the ad.

‘Pepsi was trying to project a global message of unity, peace and understanding. Clearly, we missed the mark, and we apologize. We did not intend to make light of any serious issue. We are pulling the content and halting any further rollout. We also apologize for putting Kendall Jenner in this position.’

Kendall was the first model to land a global campaign for Pepsi since supermodel Cindy Crawford, and is yet to make a comment on the controversy caused by the campaign.
