Princess Diana’s controversial former butler has claimed she visits him in his dreams and tells him she is still alive.
Speaking to The Mirror, Paul Burrell – who last week sensationally evealed he is to marry boyfriend Graham Cooper following 32 years of marriage to his ex-wife – said he desperately wishes he could have Diana’s approval over his new relationship with lawyer, Graham Cooper.
‘I want Diana to say to me ‘It’s OK, Paul, live the life you’ve chosen’. But she’s not here, so all I have got is here in my dreams.’
He added: ‘She tells me things. It’s not scary or flaky, it just happens.
‘She comes to me on a regular basis. It just happens. We have no control over our subconscious and I go to sleep sometimes thinking “Please don’t come into my dreams” but then she appears.
‘She’s asking “Can you help me?” It’s a cry for help sometimes and then at other times we’re sharing fun and laughter.
‘She’ll say “When are you going to tell them, Paul, that I’m not actually dead?”’
The 57-year-old – who has two sons with his ex-wife and is now working as a florist – is believed to have kept his sexuality hidden for years, only telling Diana the truth.
A source said: ‘Paul’s friends and family all know but for a long time he kept it a closely guarded secret.
‘And for a time, literally nobody knew.
‘He did share it with Diana while he worked with her because they were so close.
‘But at the time she was the only woman he felt he could tell.’
