Prince William and Kate Middleton are at breaking point, with a staff meltdown at their Norfolk home putting strain on the royals’ marriage.
According to The Sun, the couple’s top housekeeper Sadie Rice walked away from her duties after the £35,000 job became “too demanding.”
Reports claim the 35-year-old – who was in the role for two years – couldn’t take one more day working for the family.
“Sadie’s a hard worker but the job’s demands got too much, even for her,” a source at the Queen’s nearby Sandringham Estate told the publication.
“They wanted her to spend more time at Kensington Palace and her work was increasing all the time.”
“She wasn’t having a normal life outside work,” the source explained.
Rice has previously been a huge help for the family and was responsible for cleaning, laundry, shopping and cooking at ten-bedrooom Anmer Hall.
The maid was also well liked by three-year-old Prince George and Princess Charlotte, 2.
“Sadie’s serving her notice and it seems nothing will change her mind,” the insider continued, adding: “It’s their loss.”
“They will regret losing Sadie as the right people aren’t easy to find.”
The news comes amidst reports that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been hiring more staff in preparation for their move to Kensington Palace.
The couple are set to step up their royal duties in the wake of Prince Philip’s retirement once William quits his air ambulance position later this year.
