The Queen has sensationally announced that William and Kate, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, will be our new King and Queen.
In a historic statement, Her Majesty has told senior palace officials that she sees the young royal couple as the ‘natural successors’ to the monarchy, effectively freezing out Prince Charles and Camilla.
The announcement comes in a week where Prince William and wife Kate, both 35, have been put at the front of the royal family time and time again.
As well as being hand-picked by the Queen to embark on an important diplomatic tour of Germany and Poland – sidelining Charles – William and Kate were the stars of an extravagant state banquet for the King and Queen of Spain, hosted by the Queen last week.
Kate stole the show wearing Princess Diana’s favourite tiara and a blush-coloured lace gown on a night that’s being described as a ‘trial coronation.’
‘Only a day earlier, the Queen had told her senior advisers that she sees William and Kate as the future King and Queen,’ says a senior palace adviser.
‘The Queen said she wanted to make the state banquet a “trial run” for William and Kate’s coronation, so every effort was made to make them the stars of the night. The Queen went all out, that’s for certain.’
And while Charles is said to be disappointed that his mother has sidelined him and Camilla in favour of William and Kate, he is powerless to stop her.
‘Her Majesty realizes that William and Kate are the future and she is happy for them to take on major roles now so that they are ready to take over when required,’ reveals a top courtier.
‘If Charles is upset, it’s too bad. The queen is a pragmatist and will do what’s best for the future of the monarchy.
