Nearly twenty years have passed since he lost his beloved mother, but Prince William admits Princess Diana was with him on the biggest day of his life: his wedding to Kate Middleton.
In a clip teasing the upcoming ITV and HBO documentary Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy, the 35-year-old admits he felt the late royal’s presence as he stood at the alter at Westminster Abbey back in 2011.
“When it came to the wedding, I did really feel that she was there,” he says.
“You know, there was times when you look to someone or something for strength and I very much felt she was there for me.”
The father-of-two also explains that his mother’s spirit is constantly at his side:
“There are not many days that go by that I don’t think of her, you know. Sometimes sad, sometimes very positively,” he says.
“I have a smile every now and again when someone says something, and I think, ‘that’s exactly what she would have said’, or ‘she would have enjoyed that comment.’”
As well as candidly opening up about their grief following her death in 1997, William and his brother Harry have shared a collection of intimate never-before-seen photographs from Diana’s own family album.
Diana: Our Mother: Her Life And Legacy will air exclusively on Seven’s Sunday Night this Sunday 30 July at 7pm.
