They’re guaranteed to steal the show at any royal event they attend, and yesterday was no exception!
Prince George and Princess Charlotte melted hearts as they made their appearance at the annual Trooping of the Colours parade – an event in honour of the Queen’s 91st birthday.
The centuries-old tradition sees 1400 troops from the Queen’s personal division, 400 musicians and 200 horses parade from Buckingham Palace down The Mall to the Horse Guards Parade and Whitehall before they return to Buckingham Palace to offer a salute to the Sovereign.
George, who is set to turn four next month and Charlotte, two, delighted royal fans as stepped out onto Buckingham Palace’s balcony to watch the flypast along with the rest of the royal family.
While both the tots appeared transfixed for a while at the air display, George appeared to get a little bored after a few minutes.
However Charlotte – clad in a matching pink outfit to mum, Kate -happily giggled away.
The Queen, who until 1987 rode sidesaddle in the parade, attended in an opened-topped carriage, joined by her husband Prince Philip, 96.
Prince Harry, Camilla the Duchess of Cornwall and Catherine the Duchess of Cambridge arrived in an open-topped horse-drawn carriage.
Princess Anne, Prince William and the heir to the throne, Prince Charles, rode in the parade on horseback.
Despite the joyous occasion, the event got off to a sombre start as the Queen led a minute’s silence in tribute to the dozens of people who died on Wednesday in the horrific fire at the Grenfell Tower in west London.
Earlier in the day, the Queen released an official message,
“Today is traditionally a day of celebration,” she said. “This year, however, it is difficult to escape a very sombre national mood.
“As a nation, we continue to reflect and pray for all those who have been directly affected by these events.
“During recent visits in Manchester and London, I have been profoundly struck by the immediate inclination of people throughout the country to offer comfort and support to those in desperate need.”
She added: “Put to the test, the United Kingdom has been resolute in the face of adversity.
