Prince William and Kate Middleton had a notoriously rocky relationship in their youth, with the couple breaking up in 2007 after their university studies at St Andrew’s, only to get back together soon after and much to the delight of the royal family.

Despite this, it would seem that William’s father, Prince Charles, held on to his doubts surrounding the royal couple as a royal biographer claims that the future King of England had a less-than-favourable reaction upon hearing the news of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s in engagement.

Watch the below video to find out WHY William regretted breaking up with Kate!

Kate Middleton and Prince William’s engagement announcement in 2010 delighted the British public, who had wholeheartedly supported the couple for years.

However, while the British public and most of those inside Buckingham Palace were looking forward to the royal weddingthe Prince of Wales couldn’t hide his doubts surrounding the union.

Celebrated Royal biographer Andrew Morton has detailed the unpleasant snubbing in his biography, William and Catherine, where he claims Charles was not only displeased with the announcement, but he was also downright rude.

While William’s brother, Prince Harry was excited, along with Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, Charles did not want to become a father-in-law.

“The engagement day illustrated the character differences between father and son,” Morton writes.

“William’s mature, assured performance stood in contrast to his father’s rather churlish reaction when asked about the impending nuptials.”

Churlish? Oh dear…

Morton continues with his shock claims, writing: “While the Queen and Kate’s parents had expressed their delight, the Prince of Wales seemed a forlorn side figure, ungracious and curmudgeonly.”

Morton goes on to suggest that it was Charles’s jealousy over his more popular son, that was the underpinnings for his rude reaction.

“Perhaps unsurprisingly, opinion polls the weekend after the announcement all suggested, as they have for some years, that on the Queen’s death the Crown should skip a generation and pass straight to William.

“Much as William may have bridled, the fact was that at the time between one half and two thirds of the public wanted the newlyweds to be the next King and Queen.”
