The Queens Scottish residence has been put on lockdown after a “suspicious letter” containing white powder was sent to the Palace of Holyrood.
According to the Mirror, six fire engines as well as paramedics and police officers rushed to the scene on Wednesday, after reports of an emergency security breach at the monarch’s official residence in Edinburgh.
However, a Police Scotland spokesperson has since confirmed that the letter poses no threat to the general public.
“An investigation is now underway to identify the sender and establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident,” reads a statement obtained by the BBC.
Many took to Twitter to share snaps of the significant emergency turnout.
A royal spokesperson has revealed that Queen Elizabeth was at Buckingham Palace in London when letter was received.
The news comes just one month after a similar incident unfolded at the Scottish National Party headquarters, which also turned out to be a hoax.
Although it’s believed the royals regularly receive ‘hate mail,’ authorities have been put on high alert in the wake of the recent terror attacks in Manchester and London.
