A bitter war or words is threatening to overshadow Pippa Middleton’s wedding after a showdown with Meghan Markle.
Tension between the pair has hit an all-time high ahead of the big day, with Pippa accusing Meghan of ‘stealing her spotlight’ after she was ‘forced’ to invite the actress girlfriend of Prince Harry, 32, to the May 20 nuptials.
The controversy has sparked an angry war of words between the pair, with the Middleton family and senior royals desperately trying to mediate the explosive situation ahead of Pippa’s wedding to billionaire businessman James Matthews.
‘The feud between Pippa and Meghan has got really out of hand,’ a palace insider says.
‘It all started when Pippa was forced into inviting Meghan to the wedding – even though she isn’t married to Harry. Pippa and James had made a firm “no ring, no bring” policy, meaning that only couples who were married or engaged would be invited. Even James’ own brother [UK reality TV star] Spencer was banned from inviting his girlfriend because of their rule.
‘But senior royals – who are incredibly fond of Meghan – have been leaning on Pippa to make sure Harry could bring along his date, and she has begrudgingly agreed.
‘It’s caused a lot of bad blood, and there have been a lot of angry words thrown around.’
Front and centre to the tension between the pair is 33-year-old Pippa’s anger that her long-awaited wedding has turned into the “Harry and Meghan Show”.
An insider close to Pippa reveals: ‘This was meant to be Pippa’s big day – but now all everyone is talking about is seeing Meghan and Harry together. She’s sat in the wings for so long – watching her sister become a princess and have a fairytale wedding. She was finally going to have her moment in the spotlight, and Meghan has stolen it.
‘She feels like she’s completely lost control over her own wedding and it’s become all about Meghan and Harry – it’s all anyone has asked her about.
‘Last week, Pippa even got word that Meghan was planning to wear a white cocktail dress to the wedding – which, of course, incited Pippa even more.
‘Even the fact that Meghan and Harry stepped out at the polo last week and shared their first public kiss has upset Pippa. People are obsessed with Meghan and Harry more than ever now, seeing them at her wedding is all that anyone will care about.’
